Town Departments

Animal Control

The Animal Control Department is responsible for the enforcement of the Connecticut State laws pertaining to animals.

Assessor

The Assessor’s primary objective is to ensure that all taxable property located within the Town of Somers is assessed in accordance with applicable law so that every property owner shares an appropriate share of the total property tax burden.

Finance & Treasury

The Finance & Treasury Department handles all general accounting, purchase orders, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, investments, debt administration, and provides the overall management, direction, and planning of the fiscal affairs of the Town.

Fire Department

The Somers Fire Department has approximately 70 dedicated members within its ranks. These members are part of four distinct and important divisions that make up the Somers Fire Department “Team”. The four divisions are Fire, EMS, Career Staff, and Auxiliary.

Land Use Services

Land Use Services include, Engineering, Building, Planning & Zoning, Health, Water Pollution Control , Wetlands, and Zoning Enforcement.

Public Works

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the following areas: Highway Division, Parks and Facilities, Recycling Center, and Tree Warden.

Recreation Department

The Recreation Department offers recreational and cultural programs for the community.

Registrars of Voters

The primary tasks of the registrars of voters are to encourage every eligible voter to register, every registered voter to vote and to make sure that every vote is counted accurately. The registrars of voters also conduct elections and tally the votes.

Resident Troopers & Police

The Somers Resident Trooper’s Office is committed to the safety of our town through professional service to our citizens.

Selectmen’s Office

The Somers Selectmen’s Office is the location of the First Selectman, the Town’s Chief Executive/ Administrative Officer, as well as the center for all Board of Selectmen (BOS) activities.  The two Selectmen that comprise the balance of the BOS are part-time employees of the Town.  The Town’s Human Resources and Operations departments are also housed at this location.

Senior/Elderly Services

It is our goal to create a warm and welcoming environment where seniors feel at home and can take part in social, educational and recreational activities.

Social Services

We are here to help assist all Somers residents, including seniors, including the following: Assistance programs, Payment Programs, Salvation Army Programs, Farmer’s Market Vouchers and much more.

Tax Collector

The Tax Collector’s function is to enforce the collection of all taxes imposed by the Town of Somers, ( Real Estate, Personal Property, and Motor Vehicle) by utilizing all collection tools available to the Tax Office under state statutes and local ordinances, while maintaining a customer friendly office devoted to serving the public.

Town Clerk

The Town Clerk’s Office is one of service to the public with emphasis on information that is accurate, timely and provided in a courteous manner. The Town Clerk’s Office is responsible for the recording of all land records, birth, marriage and death records, maps, liquor permits, veteran discharges, assists the Registrar of Voters, issues dog, marriage and sporting licenses, registers trade names, and is the repository for meeting agendas and minutes and the official keeper of the Town Seal.

Veterans Affairs

The Veterans Affairs Department provides services to our town’s armed forces veterans. The office provides assistance and counseling services and processes applications for VA healthcare and disability applications, financial assistance programs, including the Soldier-Sailor-Marine Fund (SSMF), Correction of military records, tax exemption services for 50-100% service-connected veterans, Identification services, job and careers service
