Reflective Address Markers

The Somers CERT (Citizen Emergency Response Team), working with the Fire Department, is offering ‘free’ address markers which are visible day or night, reflective and fade resistant.  Emergency Personnel need to find your home and ‘if they can’t find you, they can’t help you’.  Information and application available from the following link:

Fall Town-Wide Tag Sale

Somers will have a Fall Town-Wide Tag Sale on Saturday, October 02, 2021.  Attached is the application for participation.  Please make sure you indicate the ‘time’ of your sale on the application — each participant decides the hours of their sale.  Applications will also be available in the Town Clerk’s office.  The deadline for submitting an application will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Schools in Somers Opening – 09.07.2021

Schools in Somers will be opening on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.  To help insure the safety of our children, everyone is encouraged to follow these guidelines as schools open:  Always stop for a school bus with flashing lights; Be alert for children walking to or from their bus; Watch out for school crossing guards and obey their signals; Always obey the speed limits.

Students:  Unplug-do not be a distracted walker; Stop if you need to use your phone; Look both ways for oncoming vehicles.

Connecticut is predicted to receive a significant amount of rain beginning on Wednesday and continuing into Thursday.  The time to prepare is now.  The Ct Dept of Public Health and Dept of Emergency Services published a Personal Preparedness Guide which can be viewed at the following link or picked-up in the Town Clerk’s Office.

Mosquitos carrying the West Nile Virus have been detected locally.  The Ct Department of Public Health recommends all residents review the attached informational sheet for ways to protect yourself against mosquito bites.

All roads are open; Eversource reports all power has been restored to residents; the Fire Department will not be opening as a cooling/charging station today; the Recycling Center is open today from 7:30 – 4:00 pm


Fall 2021 Town-Wide ‘Fall’ Tag Sale

Somers will again be conducting a Town-Wide ‘Fall’ Tag Sale on October 02, 2021.  The Application and Details will be posted.  Again, there will be no charge to the resident for this one-day event, an application must be received, and a listing of all registered locations will be provided.

COVID Not Going Away Soon

COVID is not going away any time soon until more individuals are vaccinated.  Somers, (53.4%) is falling further behind the state average (63%) for fully vaccinated individuals.  Sonny’s Place is conducting a FREE COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic on August 13th and August 27th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – No appointment required – No one turned away for lack of insurance or ID.  Below is a link to information, including questions and answers, on COVID-19 and the Delta Variant.

Transfer Station Permits Available

The new Fiscal Year Transfer Station Permits are available for purchase from both the Transfer Station and the Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours.  The fee is $35.00 per permit valid for one-year.  A fillable and printable application can be obtained from the following link:
