The Board of Selectmen is comprised of the First Selectman, Second Selectman and Third Selectman, elected to two-year terms at each biennial election.
The Board of Selectmen:
- Supervises the administration of the affairs of the town, except those matters which by the General Statutes or by the Town Charter are exclusively committed to the Board of Education or other agencies:
- Coordinates the activities of all the agencies of the town; and
- Keeps under review the present and future needs of the town.
The Board of Selectmen and Town Meetings have the legislative power to enact ordinances in general for the preservation of the good order, health, welfare and safety of the town and its inhabitants.
The First Selectman is the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer of the town.
