Good morning,
After this weekend’s storm of snow/sleet/freezing rain and rain, many roads have ice packs on them. This condition will not change anytime soon until the temperatures increase this weekend.
The challenge is that this winter’s cold temperatures have caused significant frost in the ground, which does not allow complete drainage. On Sunday afternoon the rains came after the snow and sleet, and the water had nowhere to go, so it pooled on the roadways.
DPW staff worked throughout the night from 5:00 p.m. Saturday until 2:00 p.m. Sunday. We were back in at 5:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday to salt and scrape what we could.
We will be in every day at 5:00 to scrape and salt to mitigate the icing, but it will take some time.
Please use care when traveling.
Thank you,
Todd Rolland
