Volunteers Wanted for Sidewalk Ad Hoc Committee

We are looking for volunteers for our Sidewalk Ad Hoc Committee.
The Board of Selectmen has created a Sidewalk Ad Hoc Committee to make recommendations to improve, and possibly expand the Sidewalk system in Somers. This group will meet monthly over the next 12 – 18 months. We are requesting two additional community members to participate in this Committee.

Field Road will be closed on Wednesday, November 2, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM for utility work in the area of Field Road Park.

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) SYSTEM

The Town of Somers, Connecticut (the “Town”) is soliciting proposals from solar energy providers (each a “Developer”) to design, permit, install, finance, own, operate, and maintain at least one solar photovoltaic System (the “System”) at a certain Town site a portion of which the Town anticipates leasing/licensing to a Developer. The Developer selected (the “Winning Bidder”) pursuant to this Request for Proposals (this “RFP”) will develop, construct, own, operate and maintain the System.
The documents comprising this RFP are available electronically and may be obtained via email by contacting Kirt Mayland at Mayland Energy, LLC (the “Consultant”) at kmayland@reservoirroadholdings.com or here: Somers 2022 Solar RFP 10

The Consultant is administering this RFP on behalf of the Town of Somers. Developers shall submit responses to this RFP electronically to the Consultant no later than November 23, 2022. Proposals received after the final submission date may be considered at the sole discretion of the Town.

The Town reserves the right to amend or terminate this RFP, accept or reject any or all proposals, waive any informalities or non-material deficiencies in a proposal, and award the proposal to a Developer that, in the Town’s sole discretion and judgment, will be in the Town’s best interests. The Town’s decision shall be final, shall not be subject to review or appeal, and may be based on any criteria in the Town’s sole discretion, including but not limited to price, terms, and the relative experience and reputation of the Developer.  Long-term owner/operators of solar projects with experience in New England are particularly encouraged to apply. 

Any leases shall be preceded by a notice of award and letter of intent and thereafter will be contingent and non-binding until (i) all approvals and letters of support are received from applicable local, state and federal regulatory agencies, boards and authorities, (ii) final, financeable interconnection service agreements are fully executed with the utility and (iii) all other pertinent written documents and contracts are signed by the Town and the Winning Bidder.

Senior Community Center Survey

In our continuing efforts to garner feedback from all residents and parties interested in a new Senior/Community Center, we are conducting a community survey.

The following survey contains nine questions. We are asking all Somers Residents to complete this survey either electronically Senior Community Center Survey or by paper copy which was mailed to every household in Somers.

If you complete the survey by paper copy, we ask you to return it to:

The due date for all electronic or paper survey responses is Wednesday, October 19, 2022. We will use the compiled data to guide our design considerations for a new facility.

It’s time that time of year again. Time for the annual Great Escape Road Race and Four Town Fair Parade.
This Saturday, 09/17/2022, Field Road will be closed from 8:00 AM until 12:00 noon for the running of the Great Escape Road Race and Four Town Fair parade.
The following roads will be closed from 9:30 AM until 12:00 noon for the Four Town Fair Parade; Main Street (Rt. 190) from Ninth District Road to Turnpike Road, South Road (Rt. 83 south) from Field Road To Main Street, Springfield Road Rt. 83 north) from Main Street to Four Bridges Road.
Please seek alternate routes.

What is a CERT, and what do they do?
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks. CERT allows you to meet new people and become a valuable asset to your community. In addition, you will learn new skills that prove beneficial in emergencies and everyday life.

Traffic Advisory, Shaker Road, Wednesday, August 17.

Shaker Road will be closed on Wednesday, August 17, to northbound traffic from Main Street (Rt. 190) to Collins Road from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM for tree work.
Southbound traffic will be allowed. However, there may be delays.
